Overview

Team profile

Germany

The German national team qualified as first at the European Championship in 2017 for the World Championship in Argentina. Especially during challenging situations the girls performed well and were able to take home the essential victories over Poland and Bulgaria, even though their team's captain Pia Timmer was unable to play due to an injury and Emma Cyris was not fit yet. The German team can rely on some players with 1.90m and more of height. Uncommon, but definitely on purpose, because the German women's national team often lacks some physically strong players. With the WCH-qualification the team fullfilled itself a dream and is eager to compete against the strong competition from the other continents such as Australia, Korea or Cuba and to get to know their unique playing culture."It will be really interesting for our girls and therefore we want to optimally prepare ourselves for the different match types", says Tietböhl.

Coach

Mr. Jens Tietböhl

Mr. Jens Tietböhl

Jens Tietböhl has been working as a national coach for the German Volleyball-Association for almost 20 years now and is therefore primarily responsible in training young players: „It is my goal that as many as possible players claim a place in the squad of the Women´s National Team”, says Tietböhl. For example Mareen Apitz, Maren Brinker, Lenka Dürr, Saskia Hippe, Atika Bouagaa, Cornelia Dumler or Kathy Radzuweit were educated by Tietböhl and are current National Players or played in the National Team in the past.
Tietböhl's greatest success as a national coach was the sensational win of the European Championship with the U18 National Team in 2007. At that time Lenka Dürr and Saskia Hippe had a large share at this victory and celebrated the win of the silver medal at the European Championship in Germany and Switzerland only six years later.
