Drawing of lots and distribution of teams
The 20 qualified countries will be distributed into four pools.
- Argentina, as organiser of the FIVB Volleyball U18 World Championship, was seeded as head of Pool A. Following the World Ranking published in January 2017 by the FIVB, the 7 best ranked teams qualified for the World Championship will be seeded in order to have 2 teams per pool. They will be seeded following the serpentine system starting from Pool B and finishing in Pool A.
Teams ranked in the first 7 position of World ranking are: Pool B USA, Pool C ITA, Pool D CHN, Pool D TUR, Pool C SRB, Pool B RUS and Pool A GER.
- 12 teams will be drawn as follow:
1. 6 Transparent Cups with 6 Name Plates marked as follows and placed in front of the cups:
TEAMS (x3) - Cups 1-3
POOLS (x3) - Cups 4-6
2. 12 Name Tags for those countries to be drawn (to be placed in the eggs or lots) marked with the country code as follows. Teams to be drawn are: BLR, POL, SLO, JPN, BRA, COL, PER, KOR, CUB, DOM, MEX and THA
Teams will be divided following the Continental vacancies and policy in order to avoid the risk of having too many teams of the same Confederation in the same pool.
