For setter Zaborowska, good spirit is vital for Poland’s game

Cheerful celebration from Poland's Paulina Zaborowska against Colombia

Rosario, Argentina, August 18, 2017 - Still bursting with joy after the win over Colombia, Poland’s setter Paulina Zaborowska underlined the importance of the result and expressed that the energy of her and her teammates on the court is a crucial feature on their game.

Paulina Zaborowska, Poland player: “The first game of the tournament is always difficult, so having won 3-0 is really good for us and we are very happy. The good spirit is a constant in our team; it’s how we enjoy the game and what makes us play even better. Now we need to focus on our next opponent, we are still not thinking about going for a medal.”

Rafal Gasior, Poland coach: “It was a very difficult game for us, as it was the first for us in Argentina. Colombia has a powerful and tall team; they jump and spike high, they move very well in blocking, so it was hard to play against them. I’m glad we won. Volleyball is a sport where every element is decisive, so we need to keep improving every aspect of our game to grow up in the tournament.”

Valerin Carabali, Colombia captain: “I believe we could have done a bit better. We have to admit they outplayed us a little and that’s why they won. We couldn’t put them under pressure with our serves, something that could have changed the outcome of the match. But it wasn’t like that and now it’s over; we have to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Bryan Silva, Colombia assistant coach: “Only in the second set we played bad; the rest of the match we were always close to them, playing hard all the time. In the third set we even were ahead during most of it, we just couldn’t close it and that’s due to the lack of experience we still have. For the girls it’s their first World Championship, so we are here to gain knowledge and fight on each game; not hoping for any results but completely certain that we will give our best every time.”
