Russia stop Belarus’s momentum

Santa Fe, Argentina, August 22, 2017 - Russia stopped Belarus good march in the battle of undefeated teams in Pool B that opened the actions of Day 4 at the National Technological University Stadium.

The Russian team, that had a rest day on Sunday, won in straight sets by 25-18,25-20 and 25-19.


Oxana Yakushina registered 13 points while Polina Shemanova tallied 12. On the Belarusian side Hanna Hryshkevich scored 11 as the only one player with double digit.

Russia outplayed their opponent with a dominant service strategy that closed with a 10-1 balance with Veronika Rasputnaia as best weapon by acing four times.

The team coached by Alexander Karikov also led the blocking column (10-3) while Belarus gave up 22 points against 18 by Russia in 1 hour and 16 minutes of game time.  The Belarusians opened the second set with a 5-2 advantage, but the Russian turned the score over 8-6 at the first technical time-out. 

Before the first 16 points of each set the battle was so tight, but it was more difficult for Natallia Melianuk pupils to close every episode. Belarus’s record is now 3-1, while Russia’s is 3-0 still with a match pending after their bye date.
