Poland, Russia, Argentina and Turkey lead pools after Girls’ U18 Day 4

Poland defeated Serbia and landed atop Pool C, but they will have to wait for Tuesday action to know their final placement

Rosario and Santa Fe, Argentina, August 21, 2017 - On the verge of finishing the first round at the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship in the Argentinean cities of Rosario and Santa Fe, Russia, Turkey and Poland got crucial wins that placed them as pool leaders, like Argentina, who had a day off. Monday winners’ list was completed by USA, Peru, Italy, Germany and Korea.

One team that clearly improved on Day 4 was Russia, who jumped atop Pool B with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-19) over Belarus, precisely the previous group leader. Also in Santa Fe, USA downed Brazil 3-2 (26-24, 19-25, 8-25, 25-19, 15-11) to earn their first win in Argentina after a seesaw battle which might be essential for the next phase.

Meanwhile, both Pool D morning games in Rosario lasted for four sets. The first one was an amazing triumph of Turkey over Japan 3-1 (25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 30-28) in a true volleyball display from both teams, followed by a 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18) of Peru against China, the first win for the South American side against the world champs.
