Next goal for Belarus is to look for top of Pool, remarks coach Melianuk

Belarusian players pose for a picture after finishing their match against Mexico on Saturday. Belarus won in straight sets despite a tough reaction of the Mexican youngsters in the first two sets in Santa Fe.

Santa Fe, Argentina, August 19 2017 - After a couple of solid performances in the FIVB Girls’ U18 World Championship, Belarusian coach Natallia Melianuk remarked that one of her team goals is to finish atop of their Pool.

She admitted that her squad faced a couple of tough opponents but fortunately the results have been on their side and are ready to take the next step.

Natallia Melianiuk, Head Coach of Belarus: “It was a difficult match against a hard rival, but we did it very good. Our team always wants to win every match and we want to get the first place in the pool.”

Vera Kastsiuchyk, Player of Belarus: “I’m very happy because of my personal performance and that's the way I can help the team, so I'm glad and hope to maintain the level. We want the first place of the Pool B.”

Grecia Castro López, Player of Mexico: “We showed good moments of play during the first two sets, but we showed excess of confidence, we failed on reception and the team fell down. We need to correct our reception, be patient and be united for the following games'.

Ricardo de Jesus Naranjo, Head Coach of Mexico: “The first two sets had a lot of parity and we even made a gap, but we couldn't maintain it. The inexperience and lack of confidence doesn't let us maintain the level we need. In the third I think we couldn't play as in the previous ones and we lost the initiative. Anyway, we played better than yesterday and we hope we can keep improving despite the results”.
