Kubik tallies 31 as the USA win in five over Mexico

 

Players of the United States celebrate their victory over Mexico after a long battle of more than two hours at the National Technological University Stadium in Santa Fe.

Santa Fe, Argentina, August 22, 2017 - The United States defeated Mexico after a long five sets match in Pool B.

Scores were 17-25, 24-26, 25-19, 30-28 and 15-10. Madison Kubik finished as best scorer with 31 points for the USA. She was followed by Logan Eggleston, who tallied 17, while Mica Allison registered 13 and Kendall Kip 10.


Uxue Amaya Guerreca topped for Mexico with 28 points, Grecia Castro scored 15, Natalie Nava 11 and Melanie Parra 10. Mexico missed three match points in the fourth set and could not close it as needed to grant their possible first victory of the tournament.

On the other side, the United States came from behind after a 0-2 deficit and capitalized their blocking points with a 13-7 final balance. Mexico prevailed in services 9-5, with three aces by Castro and three by Amaya Guereca. 

However, Mexicans gave up 36 points while the Americans surrendered 32 in two hours and eight minutes of game time.
